Red Eye Eyewear has teamed up with Digital Eye Lab to bring you digitally fabricated lenses. This allows the patient a wider field of view, less distortion in the peripheral part of the glasses and less acclimation time to your new glasses! Whenever possible we make all of our glasses in house. This allows us to minimize cost to you, speed up the turn around time and control the overall quality of your eyewear.

Dr. Gifford returned home safely from Honduras and while there had the opportunity to work at the Red Cross in La Esperanza where he examined 1075 patients! Vist us on Facebook to see photos. Nice work and welcome home!

Honduras Trip!

Dr. Gifford will be leaving Thursday, February 9th, for his annual trip to Honduras to volunteer with International Health Service (www.ihsmn.org) and will be back in the office Monday, February 27th.The office will have normal business hours.

Dr. Kohn, who has been with Red Eye Eyewear for over a year, will have his normal hours and there will also be Dr. Janet Roth and Dr. Robert Chun filling in while Dr. Gifford is volunteering in Honduras. Please welcome Drs. Roth and Chun! Red Eye Eyewear appreciates their valuable time and skill. As some of you know, while in Honduras, Dr. Gifford travels with about 100 people who break up into 10 groups of 10 that travel to different villages. Some groups have physicians, some have dentists, some have surgeons, and some have optometrists. As Dr. Gifford says, “It can be grueling but always gratifying!” Here’s wishing Dr. Gifford a successful trip and safe return!

Rough Draft Done

The first draft of the chapter for the textbook Dr. Gifford is co-authoring with Dr. Patti McCarthy has been submitted to McGraw Hill for review. Outside of research journals this is Dr. Gifford’s first oppourtunity to write for a textbook.

Welcome Sara/Odds and Ends

Red Eye would like to give an official warm welcome to Sara Olexa who has been on staff since December. Sara’s warm presence and dedication have proved to be a perfect addition to Red Eye’s team! Dr. Gifford returned from another successful Honduras mission several weeks ago. 900 patients were seen during the 2 week trip. You can check out photos from this year’s trip on Facebook or under “Charities” on our website.
As many of you know Dr. Gifford is a mentor at Gad’s Hill Center in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood. The Red Eye staff donated a day of vision screenings there in January and had a delightful time.
